AMIRA project P1040: Building the Global Encyclopaedia of Ore Deposits commenced in June 2012 and was supported by 55 companies and Geological Survey Organisations from all over the world. The project has significantly improved the Data Metallogenica (DM) website, through the way in which data and information is presented and the addition of new deposits (as a result of the further sampling programme that was undertaken).
During the course of the project, a new website was developed (www.dmgeode.com). The website was aptly designed with a user friendly interface and search functionality to review the data. The information quality has been significantly improved resulting in DM becoming more valuable than ever. The translation feature means that DM can now be globally accessible without language barriers.
Over the last three years, the project added information on a large number of new deposits and the expansion of the physical rock collection. In addition, the support of SEG student chapters across the globe resulted in purposefully prepared reports that have been incorporated into the on-line DM. The physical samples are stored at the Core Library in Glenside, South Australia, under an agreement with the Department for Manufacturing, Innovation, Trade, Resources and Energy (DMITRE).
The work will not cease with the circulation of this report. Indeed work is being carried out not only to continue incorporating more deposit information but will also include the addition of PIMA spectral measurements. This additional work is being funded by residual funds from P1040 at least until end of 2015.
The following benefits have been received by the sponsors of P1040:
